This course has been designed for Early Years Practitioners, Childminders and Nannies. It meets all EYFS / Ofsted requirements and the
CSSIW and Scottish Early Years.
What is Paediatric First Aid
The course includes both primary care (CPR) and secondary care (first aid) skills. The primary care portion of the course prepares the rescuer to render aid to an infant or child with a life-threatening emergency such as choking or cardiac arrest. Secondary care focuses on developing secondary patient care skills and building the rescuer’s confidence to render first aid to an infant or child in need when emergency medical services are either delayed or unavailable. The Care for Children course content is based on guidelines from the Paediatric Working Group of ILCOR.
Importance of Care for Children
Pediatric first aid training is of great importance as it equips individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide immediate care and support to children in emergency situations.
Accidents and emergencies can happen at any time, and children are particularly vulnerable due to their developing bodies and limited ability to protect themselves. Pediatric first aid training teaches participants how to recognize and respond to life-threatening situations, such as choking, cardiac arrest, or severe bleeding, enabling them to administer appropriate first aid and potentially save a child's life.
Duration
The Paediatric First Aid (2 Day) course lasts for 12 hours makes up this unit consisting of theoretical and practical work. A Care for Children attendance certificate will be issued to all successful candidates.
Assessment
No formal assessment is performed on this course, although the trainer will continually observe and monitor all candidates throughout the course, along with a multiple choice question paper. A Care for Children attendance certificate will be issued to all successful candidates, which is valid for 2 years
