What Is Paediatric First Aid Blended training

The Paediatric First Aid Blended course includes both primary care (CPR) and secondary care (first aid) skills. Prior to the course you will complete some pre-reading and watch some videos. It is very suitable for those who have previously attended our full 2 day face to face course.

The primary care portion of the course prepares the rescuer to render aid to an infant or child with a life-threatening emergency such as choking or cardiac arrest. Secondary care focuses on developing secondary patient care skills and building the rescuer’s confidence to render first aid to an infant or child in need when emergency medical services are either delayed or unavailable. The 12 Hour Care for Children course content is based on guidelines from the Paediatric Working Group of ILCOR.

Importance of Blended First Aid Training

The Paediatric First Aid training is crucial as it equips individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide immediate and effective emergency care for children in critical situations. Children are more susceptible to accidents and injuries, and their response to medical emergencies can be different from adults. Therefore, this training is essential in ensuring the well-being and safety of children.

The training covers various emergency scenarios such as choking, drowning, allergic reactions, burns, and cardiac arrest. By understanding how to recognize and respond promptly to these emergencies, participants have the potential to save a child's life.

Remaining calm and focused in high-stress situations is a significant benefit of this training. Dealing with frightened and uncooperative children requires individuals to know how to stay composed and communicate effectively. By having the necessary skills and knowledge, participants can provide the best care and support to children in need.

Duration

The 12 Hour Care for Children Paediatric First Aid training program lasts for a minimum of 12 hours. Which consists of theoretical and practical work. A 12 Care for Children certificate will be issued to all successful candidates.

Assessment

No formal assessment is performed on this course, although the trainer will continually observe and monitor all candidates throughout the course, along with a multiple choice question paper. A 12 Hour Care for Children certificate will be issued to all successful candidates, which is valid for 2 years

What is Involved in the 12 Hour Paediatric First Aid Blended

The course combines primary care (CPR) and secondary care (first aid) skills. The primary care section focuses on assisting infants or children in life-threatening emergencies like choking or cardiac arrest. Secondary care emphasizes the development of first aid skills and boosting the rescuer's confidence to aid infants or children in situations where emergency medical services may be delayed or unavailable. The course content for Care for Children is based on guidelines from the Pediatric Working Group of ILCOR.

The primary care course content includes scene assessment, barrier use, primary assessment, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for children and infants, management of serious bleeding, shock management, spinal injury management, and conscious and unconscious choking management for children and infants. It is recommended to learn the skill of using an automated external defibrillator (AED) specifically for children.

The secondary care course content includes injury assessment, bandaging techniques, and illness assessment.

Couldn't recommend Tracy and her team enough for a first aid course. Having to renew it every 3 years used to send me to sleep. Not with these guys! Professional, up to date and with lots of toys to play with, without the death by powerpoint.
